A leading multimedia company providing equipment for the Broadcast industry wanted to enable Remote Automation Control of its routers, master control, and video servers. The organization decided to leverage a co-development model for faster-time-to market and lower development costs and chose to partner with Celstream to achieve these objectives.

Celstream's team faced several challenges. A few of them are stated below:
- Build on existing domain knowledge (Media and Entertainment industry), specifically, understanding the customer usage scenarios in different broadcast segments such as Sports and News.
- Support a wide range of automation controllers used in the market despite their non-availability in the test lab.
- Support automation controller developers by providing a development framework.
- Concurrent development of the protocol application server, clients and device SDK.

Celstream interacted with automation developers, end users, and visited studios to enhance domain knowledge and better understand the requirements. Based on this understanding, the team formulated an optimized solution that included:
- Enhanced control protocols that provided automation controller's capabilities to transfer media, copy, edit and operate on sub-clips in addition to the usual transport control of play, fast-forward, rewind, jog, shuttle, stop, etc.
- A flexible messaging format that allowed larger amounts of data to be passed in the message, enabling thumbnail images to be exchanged.
- Automation of router control features such as configure and switch.
- Application servers and clients for the routers, master control and video servers.
- Development of
controller simulators
where devices were unavailable.
- Development of regression tools for testing.
- Technical support during development and deployment by automation vendors.
