Our client is a leading multimedia company that develops and sustains Broadcast Router and Facility Control Systems for small and major broadcast studios all over the world.
Its broadcast routing system offers a wide array of routing switchers capable of switching signals of various types including HD/SD and analog video, AES and analog audio, data and time code, to name a few. These routing switchers come in different sizes and can be integrated to control and switch thousands of inputs and outputs. Its routing system also offers control of routing switchers developed by other multimedia companies, thereby providing broadcast studios much needed flexibility to build and integrate their facilities so as to match their needs.

Highlights |
|
- Created larger configurations for stress and load testing of the Control System without investing in hardware.
- Simulated fault conditions and tested the ability of the Control System to handle faults.
- Low cost, Software only solution.
- Helped client's engineering team in developing new drivers for the Control System and provided assistance in resolving issues.

Our client faced several challenges in sustaining and enhancing its routing system. The challenges included, being able to simulate its customer's facility network to duplicate and fix problems, development and tests of new drivers towards third party routing switchers, insufficient hardware resources to perform comprehensive stress tests, to name a few.
As a solution, Celstream's team, which had been associated throughout the lifecycle of the development of the Router Control System, conceptualized and developed a PC based Routing Switcher Simulator.

Celstream's team faced several challenges. A few of them are stated below:
- Understand how each of the different routing switchers interfaces to the Routing Control System.
- Simulate the interface with the Routing Control System with respect to physical and protocol interfaces, and capabilities (the routing switchers differ from one another in terms of operational capabilities).
- Simulate error conditions like hardware failure or loss of output control (for a given range of outputs) etc.
- Enable the control and interface to legacy and third
party Routing Switchers.

 |
Celstream's team with its extensive domain knowledge could clearly envision a simulator that addressed the issues discussed above. Based on this understanding, the team formulated an optimized solution that included:
- A generic simulator framework that enables easy plug-in of any protocol driver interface for both serial and ethernet matrices.
- Comprehensive UI with interfaces for cross-point change simulation as well as for error conditions.
- Status display with color coded schemes that display the current statuses of all the outputs of the simulated matrix.
- Study and implementation of protocols needed by third party matrices.
